He Was A Liar
©2007 David M ButcherThis story’s about David, who became a young fool,
Despite growing up attending church and school.
Because he didn’t know how to handle the strife.
He did some things that almost destroyed his life,He became a liar, then a cheat, and even a thief,
The things he’d lie about were beyond belief.
He’d invent a story how he got mustard on his shirt,
So you dare not blame him for all that dirt. You see, he wanted you to think he was honest and good,
As perfect as any, doing all the things he should.
It took him some time and he finally learned,
How to keep a straight face to avoid being burned. The reality was that he was often wrong,
but with you and your group, he wanted to belong.
He thought you all knew exactly what you were doing,
All moments of the day, whether working, or wooing. That he had to be perfect was this big crazy notion
Like a ship had to be to stay on top o’ the ocean.
For a life in prison he was definitely bound.
It took an Act of God to turn him around. He spent a week in jail on a driving infraction,
It could have been worse had they taken action,
He knew he was lucky, that the officer was nice,
And a week in jail would more than suffice. It caused him to think about many things,
Then reading a book and the thought that that brings,
Led him to a spiritual experience so bright,
He now can boldly say, I saw the light.Yes, he gratefully knows that without God’s grace,
He’d be living in prison, or perhaps a worse place,
He wants you to know right here and right now,
Whether you build rockets, or walk behind a plow,The Lord is always there to see that Everything’s Alright!
He’s been there every day and He’s there every night,
Like a loving father He helps you make it through your life,
In spite of all odds, and in spite of all strife. So, listen and learn even to messages of old
Those related in the Bible, the stories you’ve been told.
They’re not there by chance, it’s not seven come eleven
And when you believe, you can easily find heaven.
